Meet the Executive Team

Below are short bios about each of the Executive Team members along with their roles and responsibilities for each position. 

Zarin Bari, President
​Zarin is currently working as a Telecommunications Analyst at the Department of National Defence. She is enjoying learning new skills and exploring how technology impacts the operations of a company. She graduated with an M.Eng. in Aerospace Engineering from Toronto Metropolitan University with a research focus on space debris mitigation. Her hometown is Calgary where she worked as an Educator at the TELUS Spark Science Centre. She is an advocate for education, especially STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) disciplines. She joined Calgary SWE because she wants to be part of a group that supports and uplifts each other to reach our professional goals. In her free time, she plays video games and reads. ​

Roles and Responsibilities of 
President
Responsible for the execution of the strategic direction of the chapter
Serve as advisor and co-chair for all eventsCoordinate agenda & facilitate leadership planning meetings
Liaison between SWE global/ Sponsor and chapter   

Pele Williams, VP Operations
She loves to read, listen to, and tell personal stories because of the power they have to inspire hope, courage and change.  She is excited to connect with and learn from the ladies of the SWE Calgary Chapter on the journey  to empower women Engineers in the Calgary area.    In return,  she hopes to share the unique ideas, perspectives, and abilities that she has acquired from her experiences as a mum, engineer, speaker, teacher, and leader. Pele has been a Computer Engineer for 23 years. She currently leads a team of IT Solution Architects within the Oil and Gas industry. Pele currently serves as VP of Operations for the SWE Calgary.  When she is not dreaming up a speech, volunteering, or hanging out with the boys (hubby and sons),  Pele enjoys curling up with a good book and a cup of tea.

Roles and Responsibilities of 
​VP Operations
Logistics: Plan SWE Calgary meetings  (international Zoom, responding to emails, cleaning up mailbox etc)  
Liaison between SWE global/ Sponsor and chapter -Backup

Amaka SanniCo-Secretary and Treasurer
Amaka has over 10 years of experience in the telecommunication industry in different capacities from technical to business roles.
The exposure to different facets of the industry provided her with the opportunity to approach her current role as Project Coordinator with a holistic view of the company’s goals.
In her career, she has seen women in different roles especially engineers struggle to find their place at work and progress in their careers at a much slower pace as a result of little or no mentorship.
She joined the Calgary Society of Women Engineers for an opportunity to lift other women because together we are stronger and together we go farther.

​Zeynin JumaCo-Secretary
Zeynin applies enterprise-level best practices to drive a solution forward, using a person-centric approach. She helps solve the human side of corporate technology, leveraging human connections to build enterprise-grade solutions that enable people to work more efficiently, while building a path for developers to bring a solution to life. She has the scrappy start-up fire in her, and the hunger to make big dreams a reality.

Roles and Responsibilities of
​Secretary and Treasurer
Record meeting notes, organize folders and maintain database, bylaws, send out leadership meeting invites, etc.; Manage and Support all financial processes

Daniela Arciniegas, VP Professional Development & Community Outreach
Daniela is currently working as an Evaluation Engineer (E.I.T.) at McDaniel & Associates. Before joining McDaniel, Daniela had previous experience in reservoir and production engineering and received her M.Eng in Chemical and Petroleum Engineering with a Reservoir Characterization Specialization from the University of Calgary, and a B.Sc in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Houston. 

Before joining SWE, Daniela served as the Co-Chair of the University of Calgary Mental Health and Wellness Subcommittee, and VP of the University of Houston Chapter of the American Association of Drilling Engineers. In her spare time, Daniela enjoys traveling, reading books, and spending time outside with her friends and family. She joined the Calgary Society of Women Engineers to help build and support a community of women in STEM

Roles and Responsibilities of
VP Professional Development & Community Outreach
Plan and coordinate Outreach/ networking events  (work with schools, universities, and organizations for give-back opportunities)
Plan and coordinate Professional Development  events  (speaker lineup, theme, etc.)

Bhakti Dubal, VP Marketing & VP Communications​
Bhakti has a Master’s in Construction Engineering and Management from Concordia University. She has a diversified experience of 6 years in the Design and Construction field and worked with Multinational companies. Bhakti is interested in reading and cooking new cuisines at home. She aspires to be an all-rounder, be it professional or personal life. Also, she considers herself to carry a motivating demeanor for people around her. In addition to serving as a volunteer at SWE, in the past, she has also volunteered to teach underprivileged children in India as part of the Company’s Social Responsibility initiative.

Roles and Responsibilities of
VP Marketing, Membership Support & Chapter Growth
Design event marketing and content 
Communicate with section members to ensure retention and engagement
Share the member sign-up portal at the beginning of all virtual events
Prepare a sign-up form for in-person meetings
Prepare event promotional material for events
Serve as liaison between members/volunteers and leadership team​
Distribute event details to members and subscribersMaintains Website & Social media Platforms (LinkedIn, Twitter,  Instagram)

All Members to:

  • Give at least a day’s notice if they can or cannot attend a leadership meeting.
  • Keep the action log updated on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Give at least a 2 week notice when leaving their position.
  • Provide help during event planning (facilitating, preparing material, developing agenda, etc.)
